Mapei Fix & Grout Concrete & Timber Floors extended information
For use on internal floors only. Suitable for use in domestic kitchens and bathrooms. For the installation of ceramic and porcelain tiles. For fixing onto sand: cement screed, concrete, securely fixed tongue and groove P5 grade chipboard (ceramic tiles only) floor boards, 15 mm exterior grade plywood overlay and tile backer boards.
Some application examples
Mapei Fix & Grout Concrete & Timber Floors is used for bonding and grouting ceramic and porcelain tiles.
Please note: If used with a porcelain tile the drying times will be greatly increased.
Recommended for normal household installations kitchen, bathrooms, conservatories and other household areas.
Ensure that all substrates are fully cured and dry before commencing tiling.
If fixing to a new timber substrate, the timber must be allowed to acclimatise to the room atmospheric climate. Dusty surfaces may be primed with Mapei Eco Prim T Plus diluted 1:2 with water, or Primer G diluted 1:1 with water. Allow to fully dry before tiling.
Mapei Fix & Grout Concrete & Timber Floors technical characteristics
Mapei Fix & Grout Concrete & Timber Floors is a flexible aqueous dispersion based adhesive of D2E classification. Based on fine-graded mineral fillers, additives and mould resistant Bio Block Technology..
It has mould-resistant BioBlock (R symbol) Technology.
It is easy to trowel to most timber and concrete surfaces.
It sets as the water it contains evaporates forming an extremely strong bond between tile and substrate. It is resistant to the normal vibration found in domestic dwellings.
It although flexible will only perform if the substrate has been rigidly fixed following British Standard installation guidelines. When used as a grout it is water resistant for application on floors in kitchens and most domestic bathrooms.
It hardens without shrinking in joints up to 6 mm. Due to the product being non-thixotropic, is not suitable for walls.
Limitations
- Is not suitable for heavy duty wet areas or in areas of constant water immersion, e.g. communal showers, power showers or swimming pools.
- Can be used on shower floors provided that the MAPEI Shower Waterproofing Kit has been installed and the tile is absorbent.
- For use on interior floors only.
- Do not grout until the adhesive has dried. This is usually within 24-48 hrs depending on the tile, substrate type and ambient temperature. When using porcelain tiles drying times will be greatly extended.
- Do not use on metallic surfaces.
- Only use Fix & Grout Concrete & Timber Floors on moisture resistant grade timber which is fixed rigidly in place using screws.
- Do not use for bonding non-absorbent materials on non-absorbent surfaces i.e. porcelain tiles must be fixed to an absorbent substrate. At least one of the surfaces must be absorbent.
- Do not exceed a tile size of 300 × 300 mm.
- Do not exceed bed depth of 3 mm.

Preparation of the substrate
Ensure the substrate is flat, firm, dry and free from contamination such as paint, polishes, old adhesive residues, grease, aitance and dust. Remove these residues by mechanical means i.e. abrasion. If fixing to old concrete or sand; cement screeds, prime with Eco Prim T Plus diluted 1:2 with water, or Primer G diluted 1:1 with water.
New concrete should be left to cure for a minimum of 6 weeks, sand:cement screeds allowed to cure for a minimum of 3 weeks. Calcium sulphate screeds must be fully dry. They must be mechanically abraded to remove all laitance, remove all dust created and prime with Mapei Eco Prim T Plus diluted 1:2 with water, or Mapei Primer G applied neat. Refer to manufacturer’s recommendation for drying times.
Once priming has taken place tiling can usually commence after 1-2 hours.
Applying the product
Stir the product thoroughly prior to application.
Apply the adhesive using a suitable notched trowel to ensure a solid continuous layer of adhesive supports the tiled finish.
Spread the adhesive over no more than 1 m? before applying tiles. The open time of the adhesive is approx. 40 minutes depending on the porosity and type of substrate and the temperature of the room. Apply the selected tile in to the fresh adhesive bed using a twisting/sliding motion, ensuring 100% coverage is achieved.
Check by lifting a tile to see this coverage is maintained. Apply an additional layer of adhesive to the rear of larger tiles, ensuring the bed depth is at a maximum thickness of 3 mm.
Clean any residues from the tile face immediately. If a matt finish or rough textured tile is used please be aware the Mapei Fix & Grout Concrete & Timber Floors will dry in the pores of the tile. It is essential to clean off immediately.
Grouting and Movement Joints
Do not grout until the adhesive has dried. This is usually within 24-48 hrs depending on the tile and the substrate. Using a MAPEI grout squeegee/rubber float, spread the Mapei Fix & Grout Concrete & Timber Floors firmly into the tile joints ensuring a full joint is achieved. Wipe off all excess grout immediately using a lightly dampened sponge or a white coloured MAPEI emulsifying pad. Do not over wash the grout during the cleaning off process as this may introduce air bubbles or, pin holes into the grout surface or colour inconsistency.
Movement joints should be filled with Mapesil AC.
Set to Light Foot Traffic
Floors are able to take light foot traffic after a minimum of 24-48 hours, provided that the product had set hard. Lower temperatures, bonding porcelain tiles and/or substrates that have low or no porosity will extend the setting time.
Ready For Use
Areas can be put into full service after 7-14 days depending on the absorption of the substrate.
Cleaning
Immediately remove residues of adhesive or grout from the tiles using a damp sponge.
Do not over wash the grout joints. Remove hardened residues with a white emulsifying pad.
Mapei Fix & Grout Concrete & Timber Floors D2E Consumption
As an adhesive using a standard trowel – coverage approx 3-5 m2 per 15 kg bucket. When grouting a tile 300x300x10 mm with a 5 mm Joint, the coverage will be approx 0.5 kg m?.
Please note: The above figures are separate calculations and are not valid for the product used as both adhesive and grout i.e. the quantity used for grouting will be additional to the quantity used for tiling.
Packaging
15Kg buckets
