UltraTileFix ProPave Mortar further information
Coverage (4:1) : Consumption varies depending on thickness of the bedding mortar and the dosage of UltraTileFix ProPave Mortar. A 30mm layer of ProScape Mortar will cover 1.65m2 per 20kg bag.*
UltraTileFix ProPave Mortar is a fibre modified cement binder which, when mixed with graded aggregates and water, can produce a rapid drying high strength bedding mortar ready to receive floor finishes such as Porcelain/ natural stone tiles etc. UltraTileFix ProPave Mortar can be used to form falls within patios, driveways.
UltraTileFix ProPave Mortar technical data
Density of mix (kg/m3)* | 2100 (approx.) |
Pot life of mix (minutes) | 60 |
Light foot traffic (hour) | 12 |
Uses
Can accept light foot traffic after 12 hours. For highly trafficked areas such as drives and paths, curing will require a least 24 hours in good conditions.
- Rapid reinstatement where early trafficking is required
- Suitable for Porcelain/ Natural Stone tiles
- Suitable for external use
- Patching and repairing
Mixing
UltraTileFix ProPave Mortar, aggregates and water can be mixed using mechanical mixers such as, concrete pan mixer, forced action mixer, screw mixer or pressurized screed pump. Where it is not possible to use a mechanical mixer and mixing by hand is required, it is recommended to thoroughly dry mix the UltraTileFix ProPave Mortar with the aggregates. Then adding water in small increments whilst mixing until a “damp earth” mix is achieved, typically 5 minutes. The mortar should hold together when formed into a ball.
Recommended Mix Design Ratio is
6:1 aggregate: UltraTileFix ProPave Mortar (Domestic Patios)
UltraTileFix ProPave Mortar binder | 285 kg/m3 |
0/8 mm Aggregate | 1715 kg/m3 |
Water | 100 kg/m3 |
4:1 aggregate: UltraTileFix ProPave Mortar (Driveways and trafficked areas)
UltraTileFix ProPave Mortar binder | 400 kg/m3 |
0/8 mm Aggregate | 1600 kg/m3 |
Water | 100 kg/m3 |
Note: Water addition may vary depending on moisture content of the aggregate being used.
Application
All correctly prepared substrates are suitable for receiving an UltraTileFix Mortar. External tiling would be a sub-base of 100mm of type one compacted stone. This is made up of one 50mm layer of compacted stone, followed by a second 50mm layer, giving a compacted depth of 100mm. Once this has been achieved, a minimum thickness of 30mm bed of UltraTileFix ProPave Mortar and aggregate can be applied. For driveways and heavy trafficked areas we recommend an minimum bed depth of 60mm. Once bedding mortar has been laid, the reverse side of the porcelain or stone will require a coat of Instarmac slurry primer, this should then be positioned on to the bedding mortar ensuring wet on wet contact. For use with driveways and trafficked areas, we recommend a 4:1 ratio due to loading. For use on Domestic Patios, a 6:1 ratio is sufficient.
Precautions
Wall types vary considerably but all have the same basic need to be structurally sound, strong, smooth and level. It is essential that the wall to be tiled has sufficient inherent strength to hold the proposed tile and the adhesive being used. The following chart lists maximum national standard loadings for a variety of wall substrates:
- Do NOT mix UltraTileFix ProPave Mortar with other cements or binders • Do NOT dry mix with aggregate and leave
- Do NOT overwater UltraTileFix ProPave Mortar
- Do NOT add water or re-agitate the mortar once setting has started
- Do NOT use fine sand – only use aggregate grading as in BS EN 13139 (0/8) • USE the UltraTileFix ProPave Mortar as soon as it is mixed
Curing and Drying
All curing and drying times are based on good site conditions i.e. an air temperature of 20°C, air humidity of 65% RH and good ventilation. Sites that are cold, humid or damp or in areas where the airflow is poor, will prolong drying and curing times, so allowances should be made accordingly. Applications to non-absorbent substrates and at thicker application depths will take longer to dry.
Cleaning
Tools should be thoroughly cleaned in water to remove excess materials immediately after use.
Storage
Store in a dry place at temperatures between 5 ̊C and 25 ̊C.
