PREPARATION
1. All phases of installation should comply with the latest editions of:
BS CP102 Code of Practice for protection of buildings against water from the ground.
BS 5325 Code of Practice for installation of textile floor coverings.
BS 8203 Code of Practice for installation of resilient floor coverings.
2. Wear protective gloves, clothing and eyewear.
3. The freshly applied compound should be protected from rain, frost, high temperatures and conditions
causing rapid drying.
4. Ensure the subfloor temperature remains above 5°C throughout application and during drying.
5. Ensure the subfloor is clean, sound, dry and free from contaminants which may hinder adhesion, including
surface hardeners, additives, oils, grease adhesive residue etc.
6. Ensure there is an effective damp-proof membrane that conforms to BS 8203: 1987.
7. Prime porous surfaces with Bostik Cempolay Universal Primer / Bostik SBR diluted with 2 parts water. Allow to dry before applying Bostik Cempolay Deep.
8. Prime non-porous surfaces with undiluted Bostik Cempolay Universal Primer / SBR and apply Bostik Cempolay Deep while it is still tacky, usually about 30 minutes. If it has dried apply a further coat of Bostik
Cempolay Universal Primer / Bostik SBR.
9. Any cracks should be cleaned out and filled a suitable patch repair mortar.
10. The subfloor should be tested in accordance with British Standards using a properly calibrated and insulated hygrometer. A reading of 75% RH or less confirms that the subfloor is satisfactorily dry.
11. Suitable for installations with fully commissioned underfloor heating, provided a surface temperature of 27°C is not exceeded. The heating must be switched off for at least 48 hours before and after application.
12. Suitable under parquet/wood floors > 5mm.
MIXING
14. Accurately measure 3.5 litres of clean cold water into a suitable clean mixing container and gradually add 1 x
20kg bag of Bostik Cempolay Deep powder, mixing continually with an electric stirrer until a smooth lump-free mixture is obtained. This will normally be achieved within 2 minutes. Do not under mix.
15. Once a smooth lump free mixture has been achieved mix for a further 2 minutes.
16. Do not mix more compound than you can use within 20 minutes.
17. Do not re-temper or add further water.
APPLICATION
18. Pour the mixture onto the prepared sub-floor, as a continuous operation and allow to flow to obtain a
smooth finish.
19. Spread evenly to the required thickness using a steel trowel.
20. Bostik Cempolay Deep can be applied from 5mm up to 50mm thickness in one application.
21. Protect surface from traffic prior to laying a floor covering.
22. Avoid application in high temperature as this may result in rapid setting and poor flow. The rapid loss of
water may increase the risk of cracking.
23. A subfloor temperature of at least 5°C should be maintained throughout the application. A room temperature of between 13°C to 18°C should be maintained for at least 24 hours prior to application, whilst ensuring that a maximum room temperature of 25°C is not exceeded during application.
24. Bostik Cempolay Deep is suitable for application by pumping.
25. Under no circumstances should the smoothing compound be force dried as this may affect the curing from direct sunlight and through draughts which may cause localized accelerated curing. The working time of the compound will be reduced at higher temperatures.
CLEANING
26. Clean tools and equipment immediately after use with warm soapy water.
27. Whilst it is still wet, surplus adhesive must be removed from surrounds and tiled surfaces.
28. Remove bulk using a rubber squeegee.
29. Remove the residue of uncured material using a damp cloth.
Bostik Cempolay Deep PRECAUTIONS IN USE
The Mix ratios and temperatures need to be followed accurately. Changing the mix ratios will disrupt the system
and risk product failure. An effective membrane is required to prevent water entering the system.
