Technical characteristics
Mapei MapeStik is an adhesive in water dispersion based on synthetic resins, selectively graded minerals and various additives. MapeStik is a ready-to-use creamy paste that is easily trowelled with good high initial grab and thixotropic properties for installing wall tiles without slippage. When set, Mapei MapeStik has high bond strength and is sufficiently deformable for moderate vibration and deformation of building materials.
Mapei MapeStik Recommendations
- Use only for internal applications.
- Dispersion adhesives are not suitable for applications in continuous immersion in water (swimming pools, fountains, etc.).
- Contact MAPEI Technical Department for recommendations for fixing to other substrate materials.
- Do not use MapeStik to install porcelain tiles or natural stone, especially light coloured calcareous stone (e.a. Carrara marble).
- Do not use Mapei ManeStik on metal substrates
Mapei MapeStik Application Procedure
Preparation of the substrate
Preparing the substrate MapeStik can be applied on approved porous substrates which are sound, stable and free of oil, grease, wax, cracks and loose materials.
Applying the adhesive
Mapei MapeStik should be applied to the substrate with a notched trowel. The notch size must allow the adhesive to transfer to at least 65% of the rear of the tile in dry service areas and 100% in wet service areas, such as bathrooms:
The open time of MapeStik is approx. 20 minutes in normal temperatures and humidity. The tiles must be set within that open time and the adhesive must be spread accordingly, no more than 1 to 2 m2 at a time.
If a surface skin forms, the adhesive must be reapplied.
Do not use at temperatures below +5°C.
Installing the tiles
Press firmly using a twisting/sliding motion when positioning the tiles to ensure transfer of the adhesive. Maximum bed depth of compressed adhesive should not exceed 3mm. Any adjustment of the tiles must be done within 30 minutes.
GROUTING AND MOVEMENT JOINTS
At normal temperatures the joints can be grouted 12 hours after setting the tiles.
Joints between tiles can be filled using a suitable MAPEl grout such as Mapei Keracolor FF or Mapei Ultracolor Plus. If good resistance to chemical agents is required, use Mapei Kerapoxy, a two-component chemical-resistant epoxy grout.
For sealing flexible expansion joints, use Mapesil AC one-component silicone sealant.
In all of the above cases the width of the joints must be planned according to the type of grout and deformability of the substrate.
READY FOR USE
Areas can be put back to full service after 7 days, depending on the porosity of the substrate and temperature.
CLEANING
Mapestik can be cleaned from tile surfaces with a damp sponge while the adhesive is still wet. Tools and hands can be easily cleaned with water while the adhesive is still wet. When the adhesive has hardened it can be removed with mineral spirits or proprietary hand cleaner.
