ROCATEX D2T Waterproof Readymix more information:
Coverage: Depending on surface texture and porosity, on a typical smooth plastered wall ROCATEX D2T Waterproof Readymix Adhesive will cover at a rate of 1 – 2kg per m2. Coverage is dependent on the application technique, substrate and type of tiles used and these figures are therefore a guide only.
ROCATEX D2T Waterproof Readymix Adhesive is a high quality, water resistant tile adhesive for applications where wall tiles come into frequent contact with water. It is an off-white, acrylic polymer based, thin bed tile adhesive suitable for fixing ceramic and mosaic wall tiles in internal locations such as wetrooms, bathrooms and commercial shower areas. Conforms to BS EN 12004 D2T and can be applied to gypsum finishing plaster, plasterboard, tile backer board, cement and gypsum fibreboard, existing tiles, cement render and concrete blockwork. Not suitable for swimming pools. Interior use only.

Preparation:
All surfaces must be clean, firm and free of dust, dirt, oil, grease and loose flaking coatings. The surface must also be sufficiently flat not to require an adhesive thickness greater than 3mm. Gypsum finishing plaster should be at least 4 to 6 weeks old, thoroughly dry and be free from dust, efflorescence and loose flaking material. Highly polished (shiny) plaster surfaces should be roughened with a wire brush, removing all loose fines. Remove areas of unsound paint from walls (emulsion paints are not suitable and must be removed). All porous surfaces should be primed with 1 diluted coat (1 part primer mixed with 1 part clean water) of ROCATEX Acrylic Primer or ROCATEX Ultimate Grip Primer and allowed to dry. Existing tiles and other non-porous substrates should be primed with 1 neat coat of ROCATEX Ultimate Grip Primer and allowed to dry. Expansion joints should be installed in accordance with the recommendations of BS 5385.
Application:
ROCATEX D2T Waterproof Readymix Adhesive should be applied with a 6mm notched trowel to give a ribbed bed on the wall surface, into which the tiles are firmly bedded with a twist and slide action to ensure complete contact. The position of the tiles can be adjusted up to 10 minutes after initial fixing. Open time of the exposed adhesive bed is approximately 15 minutes depending on surface porosity and site conditions, however, in warm rooms this period may be reduced – check the adhesive remains “tacky to touch” as fixing proceeds. Do not trowel out an area of adhesive greater than can be tiled over within a 10 minute period (about 1m2).
The final adhesive bed depth should be in the range of 2 – 3mm and grout joints should be at least 2mm. Ensure all adhesive residues remaining on the tile face are wiped clean with a damp cloth as fixing proceeds and rake out any excess adhesive from within the grout joints. ROCATEX D2T Waterproof Readymix Adhesive should not be applied onto walls affected by penetrating damp, in areas of persistently high humidity or when the room temperature is below 5°C. This product should not be used for fixing tiles with dimensions greater than 300 x 300mm (or equivalent surface area) – a cement based alternative such as ROCATEX C2TE S1 Slow Flex White should be used.
Grouting:
Grouting may proceed as soon as the tile bed is sufficiently firm, which depending upon site conditions can be from 24 hours after fixing on porous surfaces such as plaster, or up to 7 days where tiles have been fixed to an impermeable surface such as existing tiles or waterproof boards. These periods however may be prolonged in cold conditions. In areas subject to intermittent wetting, such as wetrooms and showers, always use a waterproof grout such as ROCATEX CG2 WA Ultimate Grout. Allow up to 14 days for both the adhesive and grout to fully dry out before subjecting the tiled area to contact with water.
Storage:
When stored unopened in a dry place at temperatures between 5°C – 30°C, shelf life is 12 months from date of manufacture..
