BritLevel Reinforced Single-Part Fibre based Levelling Compound extended information
Coverage: 5Kg/m2 at approx 3mm bed depth.
An advanced single part, rapid setting fibre reinforced levelling compound for application to uneven internal substrates prior to installing floor tiles, vinyl tiles* and other soft floor finishes*. All substrates must be clean and dry with a functioning DPM within the subfloor and not subject to rising damp. Do not use in areas subject to permanent water immersion i.e) swimming pools. BritLevel Reinforced can be applied from depths of 3mm-50mm in one application and is suitable for use on all common resilient flooring. Conforms to BS EN 13813:2002 F6/C40/B1.5.
*Soft floor finishes should not be applied until the level has had, depending on site conditions, 24 hours to cure. The moisture content for the flooring to be used must be taken into consideration. Ensure any trowel marks are removed from the BritLevel Reinforced before laying soft floor coverings. Matted underfloor heating elements should be embedded in a layer of product before further work is carried out.
Intended Use
BritLevel Reinforced is suitable for laying on absorbant and non-absorbant internal substrates; to prepare most floor surfaces including timber floors prior to the installation of ceramic, porcelain, glass, mosaic, natural stone, vinyl tiles, altro flooring, linoleum, carpet, wood flooring, resilient flooring and certain floor paints. BritLevel Reinforced is suitable for both matted and piped underfloor heating.
Preparation
Ensure all surfaces are dry, free from grease, dust, loose matter and any other containment that will affect adhesion to the floor. All primed areas should be dry. Ensure a functioning damp proof membrane has been incorporated within the sub-floor. Add 20kg of BritLevel Reinforced into a mixing vessel containing 5ltr of clean cold water. Mix either by hand or with a mechanical mixer to achieve a smooth lump-free pourable liquid. Allow to stand for 2 minutes before remixing for 30 seconds. Pour the Britlevel Reinforced mix onto the sub-floor and assist flow using a steel trowel to achieve the required level.
NOTE: Do NOT use a spiked roller as this will pull the fibres to the surface.
Technical
All work should be carried out in accordance with BS5385 and BS8000, The Code Of Practice for the Installation of floor and wall tiles.
- APPLICATION TEMPERATURE: Between 5°C and 30°C.
- (Do NOT use in temperatures below 5 °C or in damp conditions.)
- POT LIFE: 40 minutes
- LIGHT TRAFFIC: 90 minutes*
- FULL USE: 24 hours*
*NOTE – The above times refer to site conditions of 20°C and a 3mm layer of BritLevel Reinforced. A longer drying period will be required at thicker depths. These times will be increased at lower temperatures and reduced at elevated temperatures.
MIXING RATIO
Add 20kg of BritLevel Reinforced into a mixing vessel containing 5ltr of clean cold water. Mix either by hand or with a mechanical mixer to achieve a smooth lump-free pourable liquid. Allow to stand for 2 minutes before remixing for 30 seconds. Pour the Britlevel Reinforced mix onto the sub-floor and assist flow using a steel trowel to achieve the required level.
NOTE: Do NOT use a spiked roller as this will pull the fibres to the surface.
APPLICATION
Concrete Screeds/Sand Cement:
Must be fully cured and free from efflorescence, laitance, dust, dirt and other loose material. Mechanically remove laitance from the surface of the concrete. New concrete must be allowed a minimum of 6 weeks drying time with less than 5% moisture. Substrates should be primed with BritPrimer pre-diluted 1:1 with clean cold water.
Cement floors with underfloor heating must be switched off 48hrs prior installation and remain off for 7 days. It can then be turned on gradually over a period of a further 7 days after the levelling of the floor is complete.
Sheet Vinyl, Glazed & Unglazed Ceramic Tiles, Quarry Tiles, Terrazzo and Natural Stone:
Ensure surface is stable and suitable to receive a further surface coating.
Remove all polishes, wax, grease, old tile adhesive residues and loose matter.
If areas are loose or hollow, remove and make good defective area.
Timber floors / Overlaid Timber Floors:
Ensure timber floor is structurally sound and capable of supporting an additional static and dynamic load without excessive deflection and has adequate ventilation under the timber. Overlay boards must be water resistant grade plywood, min 15min thick, securely fixed to supporting joists at 300mm centres. Seal the underside of the timber and edges with undiluted BritPrimer SBR. Apply a further coat of undiluted BritPrimer to the surface and allow to dry before application of level.
Tongued & Grooved Floorboards: (18mm Single Layer WBP Plywood)
Ensure boards are dry, rigid and securely fixed to supporting joists at 300mm centres including any cross-noggings. Sand (abrade) surface and ensure any surface coating are removed, e.g. varnish, lacquers, etc. Prime with two neat coats of BritPrimer applying second coat at 90 degree to the first, allow each coat to dry.
Anhydrite/Calcium Sulphate & Hemi-Hydrate Screeds:
Allow the screed to dry out in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, moisture contact below 0.5% w/w or 75% Relative Humidity. Surface laitance should be mechanically removed by scarification with a carbide disc. Vacuum the surface to remove all dust and loose material. Prime with two neat coats of BritPrimer applying second coat at 90 degree to the first, allow each coat to dry.
Asphalt & Bitumen Floors:
(Subject to oil/ wax/solvent contamination)
Must be of a suitable grade, be clean, in sound condition (without brittleness, softening, etc) and have adequate cohesive strength, a natural float finish and laid on a firm rigid base. Clean thoroughly to remove surface dirt using warm water and suitable detergent. Remove all detergent residues with clean water.
CLEANING
Remove surplus level with a damp cloth. Clean tools with water.
TILING
Must not be carried out until REINFORCED has set after 2-3 hours, depending on site conditions.
