BritPrimer extended information
Consumption: The consumption of BritPrimer depends on the porosity and absorption of the substrate. Normal consumption is between 0.1 and 0.2 kg/m2.
BritPrimer is a solvent free, acrylic primer polymer dispersion for interior use on absorbant and non-absorbant substrates with the Brit Adhesives range of tile adhesives and self levelling screeds. Suitable for priming prepared calcium sulphate screeds and gypsum /anhydrite walls and floors prior to tiling with cementitous adhesives. Also compatible with the Brit Aqua Showerpoof Kit and Brit AquaSeal Liquid Membrane.
Prevents over rapid dehydration of thin bed mortar and levelling compounds, prolongs open time, improves adhesion and prevents shrinkage cracking of covering layers.
Technical
BritPrimer is a water dispersion which once applied to any surface will dry to form a flexible, compact coating which consolidates the surface where needed. BritPrimer greatly improves the adhesion of self levelling screeds, paints, adhesive for wallpaper, adhesive for tiles and for mortar renders. Priming gypsum or cement substrates with BritPrimer will prevent any chemical reaction between sulphates and cement alluminates of the tile adhesives which, in the presence of moisture, leads to the formation of the salt ‘ettringite’ which leads to tiles breaking away from the surface of gypsum / anhydrite substrates.
The substrate must be clean, dry and free from any contaminates (i.e-dirt, dust, oil, grease, laitance, residual paint and any other loose materials etc). Brit Adhesives strongly recommended to follow the manufacturers guidelines for gypsum-plaster, particulary where moisture content and level of surface finishing are concerned. Any cracks in concrete must be repaired. Anhydrite surfaces must be mechanically abraded.
BritPrimer can be applied using a clean brush or roller, diluted or un-diluted. Ensure even coverage and allow to dry between coats. In dusty environments, substrates may need to be covered to prevent dust from settling and disrupting the surface.
Application
As a treatment installed for ceramic tiles installed on gypsum – undiluted
As an anchor coat for gypsum plasters – dilute 1:2 with water
As a primer before applying self levelling compounds – dilute 1:1 with water
As a primer before wall paper adhesives: dilute 1:3 with water
