SUBSTRATE QUALITY / PRE-TREATMENT
SUBSTRATE
- Concrete/screed should be at least 28 days old.
- The surface must be dry, clean, structurally sound and possess an effective damp proof membrane. The surface should be free from residual adhesives, damp proof membranes, oil, grease, wax, loose flaky paint, dust, laitance etc. that could reduce adhesion.
- Switch off underfloor heating 24 hours before, and until 24 hours after, application.
SikaFloor 245 PRIMING
NORMAL ABSORBENT CONCRETE/SCREED
These substrates do not normally require priming. Damp down floor with clean water without leaving puddles and allow to surface dry. If water is absorbed immediately into substrate, treat as porous surface.
POROUS CONCRETE / SCREED
- Seal surface with SikaBond® PVA+ (1 part PVA to 4 parts clean water) ensuring surface is well coated, then allow to dry.
- Replace SikaBond® PVA+ with SikaBond SBR+ when using externally.
- For highly porous substrates it may be necessary to apply more than one coat to prevent pinholes and cracking/debonding of Sikafloor® 245 Level Deep Fill Ultra
NON POROUS/DENSE SUBSTRATES (Quarry/Ceramic tiles, terrazzo and smooth concrete etc)
Mechanically roughen surfaces by grinding or scarifying to provide a mechanical key.
Alternatively, apply a bonding coat of undiluted Sika- Bond® PVA+ and allow to become tacky before applying levelling compound.
Replace SikaBond® PVA+ with SikaBond® SBR+ when using externally.
SikaFloor 245 MIXING
Unfilled (3mm to 50mm thick)
Mix Sikafloor® 245 Level Deep Fill Ultra with clean water only.
- Slowly add 25kg powder to 4.5L water. Mix in a suitable clean container using a mechanical mixer with a spiral mixing paddle at slow speed until fully mixed and a smooth consistency achieved.
- If the product starts to stiffen or set, DO NOT try to remix or add extra water. Filled (10 to 60mm thick)
- Add 1 part of clean, dry aggregate to 1 part Sikafloor® 245 Level Deep Fill Ultra. The sand should be added after mixing powder with water. It is advisable to reduce the amount of mixing water before adding sand, then top up with water to achieve the correct consistency.
- NOTE: Flow characteristics will be affected by addition of the sand.
- If the product starts to stiffen or set, DO NOT try to remix or add extra water.
SikaFloor 245 APPLICATION
- Sikafloor® 245 Level Deep Fill Ultra can be applied from a maximum thickness of 50mm (60mm when filled) down to 3mm.
- Pour the mixed product onto the floor and spread evenly with a steel trowel to form a thin, tight scrape coat within working time.
- Immediately add further quantities of mixed product to give the desired thickness.
- Trowel marks should flow out of the product to leave a smooth finish (if not, trowel again when the su face is still damp but firm to the touch).
- If required use a spiked roller, within working time, on unfilled product to provide a more uniform surface appearance.
