Bostik Cempolatex Fibreflex extended information
Coverage: Approx. 5m2 per bag at 3mm depth
(depending on the smoothness of the floor surface & application technique)
Bostik Cempolatex Fibreflex is a protein-free, flexible smoothing compound, reinforced with fibres. It has excellent workability and flow characteristics and can be trowelled to depths between 3mm and 30mm in a single application.
For smoothing and levelling sound, strong substrates where minimal vibration or lateral movement occurs. It can be laid over most common substrates including: concrete subfloors, sand/cement screeds, stone, anhydrite screeds, rigid metal, terrazzo & quarry tiles, asphalt and other strong, rigid subfloors.
It may also be used over sound, firmly bonded timber flooring such as 12mm flooring grade SP101 plywood and P5 chipboard, provided the timber is mechanically fixed. Fibreflex must not be used over adhesive or water-soluble residues.
As Bostik Cempolatex Fibreflex is totally protein-free, it is suitable for use in biologically sensitive areas. The low-odour formulation makes Bostik Cempolatex Fibreflex ideal for use in occupied buildings.
It is suitable for use with warm water underfloor heating systems and for encapsulating electrical radiant heating mats, provided a surface temperature of +27°C is not exceeded. It is not to be used as a wearing surface and should always be covered with a floor covering. For interior use only.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
IMPORTANT: Before using Bostik Cempolatex Fibreflex, refer to the relevant Health & Safety Data Sheet, available at
www.bostik.com/uk
All phases of installation should comply with the latest editions of:
- BS 8102 Code of Practice for protection of structures against water from the ground.
- BS 5325 Code of Practice for installation of textile floor coverings.
- BS 8203 Code of Practice for installation of resilient floor coverings.
- BS 8201 Code of Practice for installations of for flooring of timber, timber products and wood based panel products.
PREPARATION
Subfloor:
1. Ensure the subfloor is sound, clean, dry and of adequate tensile and compressive strength, free from loose material, laitance, cracks and structural defects. Ensure there is an effective damp-proof membrane, which conforms to BS 8203.
2. The subfloor should be tested in accordance with British Standards, using a properly calibrated and insulated hygrometer. A reading of 75% RH or less confirms that the subfloor is satisfactorily dry.
3. Any contaminants that may hinder adhesion, such as grease, oil, dirt, dust, plaster, some curing compounds, surface hardeners, additives and adhesive residues must be completely removed.
4. Any cracks or holes in the floor must be cleaned out and filled with Bostik Rapid Repair Mortar. Allowed to dry
before applying Bostik Cempolatex Fibreflex.
5. For optimum performance, a room temperature of +13°C to +18°C should be maintained for at least 24 hours prior to application. The temperature of the subfloor must be at least +5°C throughout the application and drying of the smoothing compound. Ensure that a maximum room temperature of +25°C is not exceeded during application.
Underfloor heating systems:
6. Warm water underfloor heating systems must be switched off for 48 hours before installation. Wait 48 hours after installation before gradually turning up underfloor heating.
7. Electrical underfloor heating mats: Bostik Cempolatex Fibreflex may also be used to encapsulate electrical radiant underfloor heating mats. There must be a minimum of 5mm to 6mm Bostik Cempolatex Fibreflex covering the mat before bonding tiling products, and 10mm before bonding resilient textile or timber flooring. Install cabling as per anufacturer’s
instructions. Ensure the electrical cables are not damaged when installing the compound. The substrate to which the underfloor heating matting is fixed must be sound and stable.
8. Electrical underfloor heating systems must be switched off for 48 hours before installation. Wait 7 days after installation before gradually turning up underfloor heating.
Wooden surfaces:
9. The timber substrate should be solidly fixed and clean, with open joints over laid with flooring grade plywood. The plywood must be sealed to prevent moisture ingress on the underside and all edges. The plywood should be sealed with Bostik Cempolay Universal Primer to stop the ingress of moisture. The timber must be a minimum of 15mm thick and screwed down at 300mm centres.
PRIMING
10. In all cases, the subfloor must be primed prior to the application of the smoothing compound, as shown in the table below. Priming of absorbent surfaces is recommended to prevent rapid drying of the smoothing compound and minimise the formation of pinholes. See separate technical data sheets for primer application and drying details.

MIX RATIOS
- 5 litres of water to 25kg Bostik Cempolatex Fibreflex.
MIXING & APPLICATION DEPTH
11. According to the mix ratio above, pour clean, cold water into a clean mixing bucket. Gradually add Bostik Cempolatex Fibreflex powder to the water, whilst continually mixing with an electric drill and mixing paddle until a smooth, lump-free mixture is obtained. This will normally be achieved after 2 minutes. Do not under mix. After mixing, a maturing time of at least 2 minutes is recommended.
12. Do not mix more compound than you can use in 20 minutes. The mixture will remain workable for approximately 20 minutes under normal conditions. If the mix begins to stiffen before it has been spread, it must be discarded. Do not re-temper or add further water.
Note: the addition of too much water may result in separation of the compound.
13. Bostik Cempolatex Fibreflex can be applied from a minimum depth of 3mm, up to 30mm in a single application (5mm maximum total depth on mastic asphalt screeds and 10mm maximum depth on anhydrite subfloors).
14. Any subsequent layers (up to a maximum combined depth of 30mm) are best applied as soon as the first layer is set for walking, but still damp. If it is dry, an intermediate primer coat of Bostik Cempolay Universal Primer (diluted 1:2 with water) is required.
APPLICATION
15. Pour the mixed material onto the prepared subfloor in a continuous operation and allow to flow.
16. Using a steel screeding trowel, spread evenly to the required depth and smoothness. Once laid, a second trowelling can be carried out after 15 to 30 minutes depending on site conditions.
17. Protect surface from foot traffic prior to laying a floor covering. Ensure the compound is fully dry before applying a floor covering.
DRYING TIMES
18. Protect freshly applied product from strong sunlight and through draughts, as this can dehydrate the product, resulting in incorrect curing. Also, protect from rain and frost. Do not force dry the smoothing compound, as this may affect the curing process.
19. Application in high temperatures may result in rapid setting and poor flow. The rapid loss of water may increase the risk of cracking.
20. The drying time depends on how absorbent the subfloor is, the air humidity and both the ambient & floor temperatures.
21. Under good site conditions, Bostik Cempolatex Fibreflex will normally take foot traffic 4 hours after application and loose lay floor coverings after approx. 8 hours. Leave at least 12 hours before applying bonded floor coverings. The walk on time and setting time will be delayed if the powder has been stored in temperatures below +10°C, or has been applied in temperatures below +20°C.
22. The working and drying times of the compound will be reduced in higher temperatures and increased in lower
temperatures.
CLEANING
23. Clean tools and equipment with warm, soapy water immediately after use. Remove surplus compound from surfaces whilst it is still wet. Cured material can only be removed mechanically.
Bostik Cempolatex Fibreflex – PRECAUTIONS IN USE
Do not use as a substitute for a DPM. An effective membrane is required to prevent water entering the system.
Do not use a spiked roller, as this will pull fibres to the surface.
The mix ratios and temperatures need to be followed accurately. Changing the mix ratios will disrupt the system and risk product failure.
