Bostik Cempolay Universal Primer is a water based solvent free, acrylic dispersion primer. Use as a primer/bonding agent prior to the application of any of the Cempolay range of smoothing compounds. In undiluted form it can be used on all smooth and dense surfaces, power floated concrete, ceramic tile, quarry tile, rigid metal, terrazzo, asphalt and surface membranes. In diluted form (1 : 2 with clean water) it can be used on porous substrates, including sand/cement and wooden boards etc.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

All phases of installation should comply with the latest editions of:

BS 8102 Code of Practice for protection of buildings against water from the ground.
BS 5325 Code of Practice for installation of textile floor coverings.

BS 8203 Code of Practice for installation of resilient floor coverings.
BS 8201 Code of Practice for flooring of timber, timber products and wood based panel products.

PREPARATION

Subfloor:

1. Ensure the subfloor is clean, sound, dry and free from contaminants that may hinder adhesion.
2. Bostik Cempolay Universal Primer can be used over traces of old adhesive residues providing that they are well bonded and non-moisture soluble. However, it is not suitable for use over tackifier, bituminous or water- soluble adhesives which should be completely removed.
3. The subfloor should be tested in accordance with British Standards, using a properly calibrated and insulated hygrometer.
4. A reading of 75% RH or less confirms that the subfloor is satisfactorily dry. Where this has not been attained, it is necessary to apply a Cempolay surface membrane to suppress residual moisture. For further information contact Flooring Technical Services.

APPLICATION

Smooth Dense Surfaces:
5. Apply using a brush or roller, ensuring that a thin even coat is obtained.

Porous Surfaces:

6. Apply the diluted Cempolay Universal Primer by brush or roller, ensuring that it is well worked into the surface.
7. On porous surfaces or any surfaces likely to produce air holes in a smoothing compound, a second application will be required.

DRYING TIME

8. Bostik Cempolay Universal Primer will dry within one hour under good drying conditions. However, under cold damp conditions this will be extended.
9. Conversely, drying times can be reduced with good ventilation, low ambient humidity and moderate heat.
10. Avoid using heaters that produce water vapour, such as fuel burning space heaters, as these will slow the drying rate.
11. Bostik Cempolay smoothing compounds can be applied as soon as the primed surface is dry.

12. Clean tools and equipment immediately after use with water or white spirit if the material has dried.
