Ardex P4 further information
Coverage: An 8kg tub of undiluted ARDEX P4 Primer should cover at least 40m² on most typical substrates.
Coverage should not exceed 50m² per 8kg tub. Coverage depends on the texture and absorbency of the substrate, for example smooth ceramic tiles will require less material than a porous surface such as a screed.
It is the ideal primer for use in areas which may become damp or wet such as kitchens bathrooms and porches, etc. If a damp proof membrane is required consult the ARDEX DPM 1 C datasheet. ARDEX P 4 Primer is suitable for use on substrates such as:
- Concrete
- Cement and lime renders
- Sand/cement screeds
- Ceramic Tiles and slabs
- Terrazzo
- Dispersion based paints
- Traces of non-water soluble, flooring adhesives
- Dry screeds
- Levelling and smoothing compounds
- ARDEX Damp Proof Membranes
Surface Preparation
Surfaces should be firm, sound and free from dust, dirt, water soluble materials, excess adhesive residues and other barriers to adhesion. Polish, wax, grease etc, should be removed using a degreaser prior to suitable mechanical preparation.
Where ARDEX P 4 Primer will be used in conjunction with moisture sensitive materials, the substrate must be dry i.e. have a Relative Humidity of no greater than 75% and where appropriate, be protected by a functioning ARDEX damp proof membrane such as ARDEX DPM 1C.
Apply ARDEX P 4 Primer to a cured ARDEX DPM 1 C within 36 hours and to ARDEX DPM 1 C R within 8 hours.
ARDEX P4 Primer can be used under ARDEX smoothing and levelling compounds on internal concrete.
It is ideal for use externally under ARDEX K 301 Exterior Self-Smoothing and Resurfacing Compound.
ARDEX P4 APPLICATION
It is a ready mixed and ready to use primer. Apply a thin, even coat with a short pile roller or paint brush.
Apply the primer evenly and allow sufficient coverage on the substrate so that once dry it will give an opaque white, film. This should not be a translucent or transparent film. Before applying tiling or flooring products, leave to dry to form a thin even white film.
The drying time depends on the temperature and absorbency of the substrate, typically 30-60 minutes at 20°C. On certain substrates in favourable conditions this can be as little as 30 minutes. High temperatures and absorbent substrates will shorten the drying time. At lower temperatures and on dense substrates the drying time will be extended.
Once dry there is no time limit on how long before subsequent compounds or products must be applied but we recommend this is done as promptly as possible to avoid surface contamination or damage to the primed floor.
Reseal opened packaging after use to avoid evaporation and contamination.
To facilitate application onto absorbent substrates, ARDEX P4 Primer may be diluted with up to 1/4 litre of water per 2kg tub or 1 litre of water per 8kg tub. Use surfaces where the temperature is at least 5°C and rising.
NOTE: ARDEX P 4 Primer is not recommended for submerged locations such as swimming pools or substrates such as metal, mastic asphalt, excess adhesive residues, Polyurethane and Epoxy coatings. For wood or wood based substrates please consult the ARDEX P 51 or ARDEX P 82 technical datasheet for advice.
ARDEX P4 PACKAGING
ARDEX P 4 Primer is available in an 8kg tub.
CLEANING
Tools can be cleaned with water if the ARDEX P 4 is still wet and has not formed a dry film.
