The term “screed” actually refers to “a precisely levelled strip or region” of material that is used as a guide for evenly applying a covering to a wall or floor.
We must introduce some screeds as guides that we can use to lay a flat and level floor in order to lay a finishing covering, e.g. LVT flooring, carpet, herringbone tiles etc.
Floor screeds are put over an uneven floor to level it and are utilised in a variety of settings, from household to industrial.
Nowadays, underfloor heating is typically installed first, then insulation boards, and similar materials, and finally a floor screed. It’s important to keep in mind that any insulation should be completely solid and completely free of movement, as any movement will result in cracks.
As we’ve already indicated, sand and cement were traditionally used in floor screeds, but today there is another option in the form of pumped liquid floors screeds, which are also offered in a variety of forms, including anhydrite and liquid cement.
One of the most popular screeds in the UK is Mapei Renovation Screed 3240. There are many others available too, different brands and different specifications.
