Langlow Teak Oil extended information
COVERAGE: Depending upon the texture and porosity of the timber, LANGLOW TEAK OIL when applied as a thin single coat on a smooth hardwood surface will cover at the rate of about 1 litre per 4 to 6 square metres, either by brush or smooth cloth method.
LANGLOW TEAK OIL is an oil-based, water repellent wood treatment suitable for use on all types of soft and hardwood timber structures and garden furniture timbers such as doors, frames, hardwood patio chairs, tables, window boxes and trellis work, improving appearance, refreshing the natural colour, whilst also protecting against the seasonal effects of weathering and prolonged outdoor exposure. LANGLOW TEAK OIL will readily soak in and penetrate un-polished, bare timbers to restore the original appearance and highlight the natural grain structure of the timber surface.
PREPARATION
Ensure all timbers are structurally sound, dry and free from surface growths of moss, lichen and algae. Children and pets should also be kept away from treated timbers until they are completely dry. To get the full benefit of this treatment, timbers previously treated with polish, varnish or a surface sealer should be weathered and stripped back to bare wood before applying with this product. Prior to applying LANGLOW TEAK OIL timbers should be completely dry and free from absorbed moisture. Application should only proceed in a dry environment where the wood can be protected from rainfall within 24 hours after application.
APPLICATION METHOD
LANGLOW TEAK OIL can be applied by brush, chamois leather or smooth sponge block, working with an even coating action over all areas of the timber to achieve a regular consistent finish. The application of repeat consecutive coats, building up in thin layers to achieve a more pronounced sheen finish can be used, however ensure each previous coat is dry before applying the next treatment. Avoid over applying the product in a single coat as this will cause surface saturation and may lead to prolonged drying. Excess teak oil should be wiped clear to ensure a thin even layer is applied with each coat. Drying times will depend greatly upon timber porosity, temperature and humidity and care should be taken to avoid contact with treated surfaces until they are thoroughly dry to the touch. Generally on a hardwood teak smooth finish at a temperature of about 20°C, one coat of Teak Oil evenly applied will take about 6 to 8 hours to dry in well-ventilated conditions.
LANGLOW TEAK OIL can be removed from brushes or surrounding surfaces by washing with LANGLOW WHITE SPIRIT, or LANGLOW BRUSH CLEANER. For timbers being set in the ground it is recommended to over-coat the submerged section with Bitumen Paint to protect against groundwater saturation.
