Rocatex External Brush-in Grout Preparation
Ensure all joints are dry, free from weeds, dirt, and debris. Joints must have a minimum width of 5mm and depth of 20mm and the paving must be firmly bedded and stable prior to filling the joints.
The paving should be laid onto permeable bedding mix so when it dries out water / rain must have a route to escape. If paving is fixed to concrete / sand & cement screeds then you could use either ROCATEX CG2 WA Ultimate Grout or ROCATEX RG1 Ultimate Epoxy Grout.
It is recommended that all natural stone paving is sealed with ROCATEX Paving & Stone Patio Sealer or Porcelain Tiles are sealed with ROCATEX Pre Grout Porcelain Tile Protector and allowed to dry before applying the brush in grout. Pre sealing helps protect the surface of the paving / tiles from staining if any excess of the material is not adequately removed.
Mixing
Supplied ready to use, however, some compaction of the product may occur in storage and a light raking of the product may be required. Check all tubs have the same batch number as there may be shade differences between batches.
How to apply?
Empty the contents onto prepared paving and rake through any compacted material. Using a soft brush, work into the joints making sure that each joint is filled and compacted. Treat an area of no more the 5m2 at a time. A finishing tool may be used to compact and achieve a traditional pointed finish. This product will
cure in 8-24 hours subject to temperature. Protect until fully set.
It can be applied when the surface temperature is between 10oC – 25oC.
Notes:
- Failure to compact the material will reduce the strength of the joint.
- Material or residues that have been exposed for more than 30 minutes should not be reused.
- Always test product on a small inconspicuous area prior to use.
- Do not use if temperatures are likely to fall below 10oC.
Setting Time
In dry warm conditions the material should be firm enough to walk on in 24 hours and will cure hard within a few days. Cold and wet conditions will extend the setting and curing times. Do not use a power wash or hose pipe to clean the area until the material is fully cured generally a minimum of 1 week and up to 4 weeks after application.
Storage
Do not puncture or open the foil bag until ready to use. Store unopened in cool dry conditions. Once opened or punctured, contents will harden. Shelf life is 24 months in sealed unopened bags. Store unopened, clear of the ground, in a cool, dry, frost free environment. Use opened bags within 6 hours in temperatures up to 20oC and within 2-3 hours for temperatures up to 25oC.
