Hey Pete?? Spare a thought

It’s me Pete who answers the Chat on our website. I can get to about 95% of the chat requests but sometimes I’m on a call and can’t get to it and a few times I simply can’t answer what’s been asked. I’m quite perplexed not knowing what’s going on, like a white board with a distant siren wailing but not actually registering anything. Thought I’d share a few … the chat box always adds a “Hey Pete,” at the start …

Chatter “Hey Pete, you robot?”

Pete “No it’s Pete”

Chatter “Lot of robots about. How do I know you’re not a robot? ”

I think the chatter meant Artificial Intelligence. The chatter didn’t order anything

Chatter “Hey Pete, you got shingles?”

I think they had been autocorrected and hadn’t checked what they’d typed. Needless to say I put a message to say that customer services were temporarily busy.

Chatter “Hey Pete, hi”

Pete “Hi friend” (this is my standard response when there is no name to the chatter)

Chatter “Friend?”

Pete “Is there some assistance I can help you with?”

Chatter “We are not friends”

Pete “I know it’s just a general greeting”

Chatter “Greet me properly”

Pete “No. I don’t know what you mean”

Chatter “I’m going to report this website”

Pete “OK buddy sorry we couldn’t help you this time”

And the chatter left.

I have thought from time to time whether these are other shops playing on the chat when they’ve got 5 minutes to spare and in a fanciful mood. You know like a game .. “I know let’s have a go on Buy The Pallet’s chat and create some chaos”.

I ought to come up with some witty answers but you don’t know how people will take it these days, what’s one persons Friday night doner kebab is another’s rotten lemon.
