Rocatex Waterproof Tanking Coat extended information
COVERAGE
Walls: 1kg/m2 at a minimum thickness of 1mm
Floors: 1.5kg/m2 at a minimum thickness of 1.5mm
Joints: Approximately 300g/m
PREPARATION
Surfaces to be sealed must be sound, dry and clean, free from dust and grease or any contaminants which may affect adhesion of the coating. Any weakness in the substrate should be properly prepared and cured before application commences. Any dusty surfaces should be vacuumed and greasy / oily substrates should be degreased.
Waterproof Boards
Waterproof tile backer boards, such as ROCATEX Rocaboards, provide an ideal substrate for all tiling projects subject to moisture and water. ROCATEX Rocaboards also offer excellent thermal insulation properties and can be used in conjunction with underfloor heating.
Gypsum Plasters
The surface should be roughened up using a wire brush or other abrasive tool as this will remove the surface laitance. Although not essential, a primer coat can be applied to enhance adhesion. Mix 1 part ROCATEX Waterproof Tanking Coat with 1 part clean water and allow to dry. New plaster should be fully dry which can take approximately 6 weeks.
Plaster Boards
Skimming is not required. Ensure boards are dry, securely fixed and rigid.
Wood
The surface should be prepared to provide a rigid and secure base without deflection. The reverse and edges of the boards must be primed with ROCATEX Acrylic Primer diluted 1:1 with clean water, to prevent the ingress of ambient moisture.
MIXING
When ready to apply, stir the mixture in the bucket before you use. DO NOT THIN.
Rocatex Waterproof Tanking Coat – APPLICATION
To be used in conjunction with ROCATEX Waterproof Sealing Tapes, Corners & Pipe Collars – please refer to separate technical data sheets.
Apply first coat of ROCATEX Waterproof Tanking Coat and whilst still wet firmly press in the sealing tape / corners / pipe collars. Ensure there is an overlap of at least 50mm. Once dry (approximately 15 minutes) a second coat should be applied. Ensure that the tape is fully covered with ROCATEX Waterproof Tanking Coat. Tiling can commence once the second coat has fully cured, approximately 1 hour at 20°C.
Tools can be cleaned in water while the product is wet. Scrape off any excess prior to immersing in water.
Limitations
Not for use in swimming pools or areas where water may apply pressure. Not designed for use in outdoor exposed conditions. The coating is not UV resistant.
STORAGE
Store unopened in a cool dry, frost free environment and away from direct sunlight.
